One of the greatest joys of being a Christian is to be a part of a worshipping community. The bible says that God “inhabits the praises of His people” (Psalm 22:3), and that He meets us in power and in truth in worship (Psalm 148 & 150).
While on this earth our worship is impacted by our sinful fallen natures and will never reach its full expression. However, in heaven we will gather around God’s Throne and experience astounding worship at the feet of our Lord (Revelation 21 & 22). Until that day, we do our best as God’s children to bring honor and glory to his name week after week in worship.
One of the things that Jeanie and I have truly enjoyed in our first year in Marshall is to be a part of the Cornerstone United Methodist weekly worship. Frankly, the choir, bells, praise teams, beautiful stained glass worship area, and most of all worshipping with all of YOU…has been an awesome experience of JOY in the LORD! Thank you for so freely and openly accepting Jeanie and I into your wonderful worshipping community!
This summer the Cornerstone Worship Team met to discuss ways to open our wonderful worship service to more people from our church and the Marshall community. After much thought, prayer and discussion we have decided to offer a variety of worship experiences throughout the month and calendar year. We recognize that we have a diverse church and a very diverse community, and that we have a vast variety of opinions about what worship should look like. Also, we recognize that the typical regular church attender today might only attend church once or twice a month. We believe that by offering a variety of worship experiences we can extend our reach to a much larger group of people in our church and community.
In conclusion, here is the schedule the Worship Team decided on for Fall 2016:
- First Sunday: Communion and Traditional Worship
- Second Sunday: Contemporary Worship with Youth Praise Band and Children’s Choir
- Third & Fourth Sunday: Blended Worship with Choir or Bells
- Fifth Sunday (four times per year): Special music and community outreach
Pray that God would continue to move in the New Cornerstone Church and use our worshipping community to draw many people to His heart!
Peace & Joy!
