Walking into an established church can be very challenging for a visitor. Imagine how you would feel if you walked into a Buddhist Temple or an Islamic Mosque for the first time. You might wonder to yourself: Am I wearing the appropriate clothes for this setting? What do I do to fit in? How do I act? What should I say? Where should I sit? As regular attenders and members of Cornerstone Church these questions seldom occur to us…but they do to many of our guests, especially to those who are new to Christianity or to the Church. Our goal is to extend Christian hospitality to every visitor who walks in our doors and to make him or her feel at home.
Over the next year we hope to accomplish this by warmly welcoming all of our guests to our Sunday worship service and offering them a Guest Gift Bag for attending worship. Also, we hope to accomplish this goal by making the Upper Room more “visitor friendly” by putting in more tables where smaller groups can sit (imagine what it must feel like to a visitor to sit down at a table in the Upper Room with 8 people they don’t know!).
There are many other big and small things that we will do as a church to move towards hospitality. For instance, the Outreach Team has turned half of their events for 2017 into attraction events instead of evangelist events. The Summer Blast/Celebrate Dad’s gathering on Sunday, June 18 at 1 PM is an example of an attraction event. We will NOT be presenting the gospel message, but simply celebrating dads on Father’s day and having a great time! Of course, people in attendance will know that this event is sponsored by Cornerstone Church. Hopefully this will attract their interest to want to find out more about Cornerstone if they do not have a church that they are attending.
God is blessing Cornerstone United Methodist Church in so many ways. Join us as we reach out to people throughout our community to bless them with Christian love and hospitality.
Peace & Joy!
