I John 4:7-8
On Saturday, February 13 and Sunday, February 14 the people of Cornerstone United Methodist Church gathered to Celebrate Love!!
Saturday was the Love & Respect Marriage Retreat. Sixteen people gathered in the church Upper Room to discuss God’s plan for marriage. The scriptures call men to love their wives and for wives to respect their husbands (Ephesians 5:22-33). This does not mean that men don’t need to be loved by their wives, and that women don’t need to be respected by their husbands. The deeper truth is that men and women are equal in every way…but different. Most men, at the deepest level of their maleness, want to be respected by their wives. Most women, at the deepest levels of their femaleness, want to be loved and cherished by their husbands. That’s probably why men typically give flowers to their wives at Valentines Day and very few men receive flowers as gifts. Love and respect is God’s design for marriage!
On Valentines Day, Sunday, February 14, the Celebration of Love continued at Cornerstone Church! Over sixty-five people gathered for a Sweetheart Banquet in the church fellowship hall, which had been decorated by volunteers into a romantic setting of red hearts and candle-light. The evening began at 5 PM with a delicious meal followed by a con-cert of Love Songs by Jeanie and I. As we played love songs by the Beatles, John Denver, Dan Fogelberg, and many others, the audience sang along as we Celebrated Love together.
Special thanks to all those who volunteered to help set up the banquet, to serve the meal and to clean up. We couldn’t have done it without you! I hope we will have another Marriage Retreat and Sweet-heart Banquet next year to celebrate love and to keep the embers of romance aflame!!
Peace & Joy!
