I have a life long habit of setting goals at the beginning of each New Year. It’s part of my DNA to set goals. It’s just who I am. I have to confess that I have not attained all of the goals that I have set, but I like to say to the detractors of us goal setters: “If you aim at nothing you hit it every time!”
I would like to suggest a simple, biblical, godly goal that every believer can embrace in 2016 ~ Grow in Wisdom!! Is there a quantitative lack of wisdom in our world today?? I don’t know! I can’t make that evaluation. But there does seem to be an explosion of stupidity. Maybe it’s because of the information revolution with computers, cell phones, the Internet and our 24-7 access to what millions of people across the world are saying or thinking every moment of every day! Do you ever feel overwhelmed by the opinions of others!!! Do you ever feel that there is a basic lack of wisdom in the information that is coming into your life?? If so, why not change this imbalanced equation and become a person of God’s Wisdom!
How to Grow in Wisdom:
- Read the Bible… over and over and over again. It is God’s truth for all people for all times. If you read 3-4 chapters of the bible every day you will read through the entire bible in one year. As you read the bible ask the Holy Spirit to reveal truth to your heart and to help you to understand the deeper things of God.
- Practice the Bible… every day every moment. God gave you the Scriptures to give you a Life Guide for happiness and joy. Read it ~ believe it~ obey it ~ live it every day and you will Grow in Wisdom.
- Share the truths of the Bible. I’m NOT suggesting that you should go around preaching to every one you see. St. Francis said, “Preach the gospel. Use words if necessary.” But there will be opportunities for you to share God’s Wisdom as you grow in wisdom. With much prayer and much grace use those opportunities to proclaim God’s Wisdom. Surprisingly you will discover that people are willing to listen if you gently speak God’s wisdom with grace and love.
What are your goals for 2016? God wants to bless you in this coming year with His joy, His presence and His goodness. Why not make it your goal to bless God’s heart by Growing in Wisdom in 2016.
Peace & Joy,
